For my husband and I, date nights have become a staple in our marriage.

At least a couple of times a month we take time for just the two of us.  We head to dinner, a movie, or (most often) we stay at home and send the kids to Nana’s house for a little while and we chill at home together.

Over the last few years we have come to realize how very important it is to have this time together.  Our marriage is thriving and part of that is because we have made time alone as a couple a priority.

A little while back I wrote an article on Three Date Night Rules for Married Couples.

Today I wanted to reiterate those rules and offer you a fun little gift for your next date night.

Here is the recap of the rules:

Rule #1

Make date night special.  Put a little bit of time and effort into your plans and into your self.  Get dressed up.  Make a reservation.  Buy flowers.  Treat this date as you would have treated a date before you got married.  Aim to impress.

Rule #2

Make an agreement to not talk about the children, work, money or any other touchy subjects that might plague everyday conversation.  This may sound silly, but it is really important.

Bringing any stressors into the conversation can easily lead your time together down the wrong path.  Keep the date light and fun. Take this time together to let it all go and strictly focus on each other.

The question you might ask me now is, “If we don’t talk about children, work or money, what do we talk about?”  That leads to rule #3!

Rule #3
Take advantage of the time and get to know your spouse even better than you think you already do.  Before you were married, you would spend endless hours getting to know each other.  Being married doesn’t mean that sense of interest and wonder has to end.

So to aide you and your sweetie in having a great date night full of fun conversation, I want to share this with you.
