I know it sounds very cliche to say that you can learn a lot from your children, but it is true.  There is much to learn from their unexpectedly brilliant minds.  This week it was my daughter who decided to teach me a lesson.

The other day, my fashion conscious 10 year-old asked me, “Mom, how come you never wear dresses?” It appears that my idea of fashion (tank top, jeans, and flip flops) is a daily disappointment to her.

After a quick moment I replied, “Because I never really get an opportunity.”

Without taking a second to think about it she said with exasperation,
“MOM…..Everyday is an opportunity!!!”

I broke into laughter.

I had to share the story with everyone, because I thought it was so funny.  But, more than the fact that my insightful little girl is funny, she is absolutely right!

Everyday is an opportunity!

How it became ingrained in my head that I need a special occasion to wear a dress and heels to, I don’t know.  According to my daughter, the fact that it is a Monday should suffice.

Everyday is an opportunity!

It got me thinking about other things in my life that I have shoved into a little box so that if can fit into my definition of purpose.

My trainer, who is helping me learn to eat right and teaching me how to get fit, heard this story and she deemed it my new fitness mantra.

Everyday is an opportunity!

Since then I have begun to think of how I can apply those 4 words to other areas of my life.

Everyday is an opportunity to wear heels.
Everyday is an opportunity to take care of my body.
Everyday is an opportunity to pursue my dreams.
Everyday is an opportunity to say, “I love you.”
Everyday is an opportunity to hug my kids.
Everyday is an opportunity to connect with my husband.
Everyday is an opportunity to forgive.
Everyday is an opportunity to learn.
Everyday is an opportunity to write.
Everyday is an opportunity to inspire.
Everyday is an opportunity to work on my marriage.

And yes, everyday is an opportunity to say yes to the dress!

My little girl hit it right on the mark.

Thank you, Devyn!   Today I am wearing my heels, just for you 🙂
